Basic introduction to TechSmith Camtasia Studio

TechSmith Camtasia Studio is a screen recording and editing software suite produced by the American company TechSmith. TechSmith Camtasia Studio installation steps

​​ 1. Download the TechSmith Camtasia Studio software from Huajun Software Park, unzip it to the current folder, and click the MultiDotAlbum-v100.exe application.

​​ 2. Enter the installation interface, select I accept, and then click Options.

​​ 3. Select the installation location of the software. Huajun editor recommends that users install it in the D drive, then click Continue, and then click Install.

4. The TechSmith Camtasia Studio software is being installed, and users are patiently waiting for the progress bar to be full.

5. The installation of TechSmith Camtasia Studio software is completed.

How to use TechSmith Camtasia Studio

Import media

​​ 1. Import media from computer

​​Click on the Media tab.

Click "+>Import Media".

Click to select the media to be imported. Hold down Ctrl+click or Cmd+click to select multiple files.

​ Click "Open".

​ ​Import media from mobile devices

​​Send images or videos to Camtasia from your mobile device.

​​Select "File>Connect to mobile device".

​​Follow the on-screen instructions in the Connect Mobile Device dialog box. Imported media appears in the media bin.

2. Import media from Google Drive

​​Click on the Media tab.

​​Click “+>Import from Google Drive”.

​​Enter your Google email name and password.

Click to select the media to be imported. Hold down Ctrl+click or Cmd+click to select multiple files.

            Imported media is displayed in the media box.

       Manage recording and project files

Recording file (TREC)

After recording in Camtasia Recorder, create the default file format. TREC stores audio, screen recording, camera recording and metadata into a single package.

       TREC files can only be opened in Camtasia.

Project files (TSCPROJ, CMPROJ)

​​A video project file that saves all edits done on the timeline and references any recordings and source file locations on your computer in the media box. Open TSCPROJ project files at any time to update, collaborate or create videos to share.

      TSCPROJ/CMPROJ files can only be opened in Camtasia.

Project size (canvas size)

The canvas shows a preview of how the final video will look when you create and share it. If you choose to change the video size, set the canvas size to the same size you plan to make the final video.

When changing the canvas size, there are a few things to remember: the canvas size must be at least 640×480, make sure the content includes a table of contents (TOC) or quizzes/measurements. Change the canvas or editing dimensions before starting to edit your video. Changing dimensions after editing may distort the appearance of the finished work.

Question: How to use Camtasia to create an opening animation?

Answer: 1. First click on the annotation effect of Camtasia, pull a rectangle in the annotation shape onto the track of the timeline, enlarge its length and width so that it covers half of the display interface, then absorb the color number of the property button on the right in the color function, and adjust its border to the same color.

2. Then pull out a circle (called Circle 1) and place it in the middle of the interface. Then adjust the outlines of the rectangle and circle 1 to the same color as their respective shapes. Note that the circle 1 and the rectangle here are not on the same timeline track.

​​ 3. Find the "Switching" animation in the behavior function, and drag it to the timeline of rectangle and circle 1 respectively. In this way, these two patterns give people the illusion of "falling" from above.

In the property bar, adjust the period style in their behavior properties to None, so that the graphics will no longer move up and down in the subsequent timeline.

​​ 4. Copy Circle 1 and paste Circle 2 on the same track. This way, the settings of Circle 2 are the same as Circle 1, which also saves some repeated operations. At the same time, we slow down the exit speed in the attribute bar of Circle 1 to make the connection between the disappearing animation of Circle 1 and the entering animation of Circle 2 more natural.

5. If there is a lag when Circle 1 leaves here, we can adjust the movement effect to Easing-Quart in the "Out" interface of the behavior properties, so that the animation when Circle 1 disappears will be smoother.

7. Make a green outline for circle 2. Copy and paste Circle 2 onto Track 3 to create Circle 3. Press the Ctrl key while enlarging the edge line to enlarge Circle 3 in equal proportions, and then adjust the graphics transparency to 0. Adjust the outline to slightly larger than the circle 2 and change the color to the same green as the rectangle. In this way, adjusting the attribute value of Circle 3 plays the role of the outline of Circle 2.
