Supplier Management Measures Notes
Too much review and supervision, too little coaching support
Many companies complain that their suppliers’ capabilities are low and their quality and delivery always fall short of requirements. Faced with the problem, many managers think of achieving their goals by strengthening auditing and supervision, or even using heavy penalties and other means. As for providing guidance to suppliers to help improve their management level, there is no awareness or little progress. As a result, suppliers' capabilities are slowly improving, and assessments and penalties will increase the distrust between supply and demand, leading to mutual blame-shifting.
Being able to default on payment becomes a rewarded ability
Some companies believe that being able to default on payment to suppliers is a commendable ability of the purchaser, and use this to evaluate procurement performance. As a result, companies find ways to default on payment and often find fault with suppliers, citing poor quality or delayed delivery as reasons for not paying or underpaying. The consequence of this is that the company's credibility and image are seriously damaged. A supplier friend of mine told me that he never wanted to do business with a big-name domestic company again because the other party was not only domineering but also had poor payment credit.
If the supplier doesn’t work, change it
In the eyes of some companies, changing suppliers is easy because there are too many small and medium-sized enterprises waiting to become their suppliers. In the process of constantly changing suppliers, these companies can indeed benefit from it. However, the shortcomings of this are also obvious, that is, there is no progress in improving the overall capabilities of the supply chain, a lack of accumulation, and it will also suffer huge losses in corporate credit and image.
