Basic introduction
ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange, American Standard Code for Information Interchange) is a computer coding system based on Latin letters. It is mainly used to display modern American English and is equivalent to the international standard ISO/IEC 646. Standard ASCII encoding can represent 128 characters, including upper and lower case Latin letters, Arabic numerals, English punctuation marks, and special control characters used in American English. There is also an extended version of ASCII encoding that adds some Western European characters and can represent 255 characters. However, the definitions of extended characters are inconsistent among Western European countries and is not a universal version.
