Origin is a graphical visualization and data analysis software developed by the American company OriginLab (formerly known as Microcal). It is an advanced data analysis and graphics tool commonly used by scientific researchers and engineers. Since its advent in 1991, it has quickly become one of the most popular analysis software in the world due to its easy operation and open functions. It is recognized as a fast, flexible and easy-to-learn engineering drawing software. In China, its scope of use is becoming more and more widespread. Currently popular graphic visualization and data analysis software include Matlab, Mathmatica, and Maple. These software are powerful and can meet many needs in scientific and technological work, but using these software requires certain computer programming knowledge and matrix knowledge, and familiarity with a large number of functions and commands. Using Origin is as simple as using Excel and Word. You only need to click the mouse and select menu commands to complete most of the work and obtain satisfactory results. Like Excel and Word, Origin is a multiple-document interface application. It saves all work in Project (*.OPJ) files. The file can contain multiple sub-windows such as Worksheet, Graph, Matrix, Excel, etc. Each sub-window is interrelated and can realize instant update of data. Subwindows can be saved together with the Project file, or they can be saved separately so that they can be called by other programs.
Origin has two main functions: data mapping and data analysis. Origin data mapping is mainly template-based, providing more than 50 2D and 3D graphics templates. Users can use these templates to draw drawings, or they can set their own templates according to their needs. Origin data analysis includes powerful analysis tools such as sorting, calculation, statistics, smoothing, fitting and spectrum analysis. The use of these tools is just a matter of clicking a toolbar button or selecting a menu command.
