Awesome is free software licensed under the GPL. Unlike KWin and Metacity, awesome is a Tiling window manager, the literal translation is "tiled window manager", and the free translation is "tiled window manager". The so-called tile means that all windows will not overlap each other, but will be automatically resized so that they can just fill the entire screen. This is very different from the concept of traditional desktop managers
