We usually rename files by right-clicking and then clicking Rename; or using the shortcut key "F2". The method of use is very simple, but if there are many files that need to be renamed, it is unwise to operate them one by one. We can use the method of batch renaming.

Case:

Usually, we have to do the following work for various photos. For example, you took a lot of digital photos while on vacation in Corsica, and your camera automatically named them DSCN0595.jpg, DSCN0596.jpg, and so on. You will definitely want to change them to names that are easier to recognize and remember. You can of course change them one by one to for example "Me and Julie in front of the lighthouse.jpg", "Party at the bar again.jpg" etc. But if these photos are not only a few, this will undoubtedly consume a lot of precious time. A relatively good compromise is to name these photos "Corsica 2006-1.jpt", "Corsica 2006-2.jpt" and so on.

If you are using a Windows XP system, you can easily complete this task. First, put the files you have classified into the same folder. You can select all (Ctrl+A) or only the files that need to be renamed. Right-click on the first file and select "Rename". In this way, except for the first file, the naming box will appear, and the other files will just remain selected. Change the file name to "Corsica 2006.jpg" (Figure 1), that is, type "Corsica 2006". Wait a few seconds, and soon you will see that all selected files will be renamed Corsica 2006(1), Corsica 2006(2), etc. (Figure 2).

There are a few other things to note here. First of all, "Cancel Rename" can only cancel one file at a time, and it can only be used on the last ten files named. So if the number of files to be renamed is more than ten, you'd better make a backup of the photos in another directory before changing the names. The order of file naming is based on the order in which the files are displayed on the screen. That is to say, if the files in the browser are arranged in reverse order of date, then after renaming, the first file will be the most recent file. Or, if you don't click on the first file when you right-click the menu, but click on a file in the middle, then the renaming will start from this file, sequence to the last file, and then start from the first Files lined up.
