Greenshot is a free, open source screenshot tool that allows you to take screenshots through shortcut keys: area screenshot (Print), window screenshot (Alt+Print) and full-screen screenshot (Ctrl+Print). It also comes with a compact image editor that can instantly edit captured pictures. Developed based on C# and supporting plug-in extensions, it is very suitable to replace commercial snapshot software such as SnagIt or Hyper-Snap.

Additionally, you can configure the software settings by right-clicking on the Greenshot icon on the taskbar. 1. Add boxes and ovals. You can set whether these added graphics have borders, what color the fill is, and you can also change the transparency. This way it doesn't completely obscure the background and becomes a gorgeous highlight. The thickness of the border can also be adjusted, the default is 1px.
2. Draw straight lines and arrows. Arrows can have both ends, or only one end.
3. Add text. The background color of the text area can also be adjusted.
4. Highlight. This function has four modes in total. Highlight text (highlight the selected area with color), Highlight area (blur all areas that are not selected), Grayscale (make the selected area black and white), and Magnify (enlarge the selected area).
5. If you want to mosaic part of the picture, you can use the blur function.
Among the above 5 functions, 1 and 3 are very rare in other similar software. And if you use it skillfully, it will add a lot of color to your screenshots. Or if you really like the image editor that comes with this software, then you can use the "Load Image from File" right-click menu to edit any image.
