Microsoft improves details of Win10 v2004: overall game performance is enhanced, supports ray tracing 1.1

Author: Internet Date: 2020-05-12

As the most important Windows 10 update this year, v2004 is still very popular among users, and of course it is worth upgrading.

Now, foreign media have given some details of the improvements in Win10 v2004 in advance. Among them, the system has greatly enhanced the game performance. Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) 2.7 allows multi-monitor settings to increase the refresh rate and two monitors. Moving between windows doesn't seem to cause any stuttering.

In addition, the WDDM update also adds support for hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling and allows the GPU graphics card to properly manage its video memory, which also makes video playback smoother.

Windows 10 version 2004 also adds support for DirectX Raytracing 1.1, which includes new technologies including online ray tracing and indirect ray execution. In version 1.1, ray tracing executions are determined at runtime and they are not predefined.

If your computer is equipped with an HDD, the Windows 10 May 2020 Update will actually feel faster.

With an SSD, you're unlikely to notice any noticeable improvements, as anything you load on it will already perform faster. The benefit of SSD is that its waiting time has been significantly reduced compared to HDD. However, in some cases, even with an SSD, indexing can still affect your computer's performance and consume CPU and disk resources.

Windows 10 2004 will also throttle or completely stop any indexing activity when you are transferring files, deleting files, and when your SSD or HDD disk is in active use. Windows Search's ability to throttle indexing activity will avoid such slowdowns on SSDs and HDDs.

Microsoft is also improving the logic working on Windows Search so that it can intelligently determine when to index your files, improving overall system performance.
