According to foreign media reports, Google is trying to launch a new printer management application to allow Chrome OS users to view and manage their native print jobs and perform print management.
With the development of technology, people's use of paper documents is getting lower and lower, but it may be difficult to completely eliminate paper documents for a while. People also have more or less needs to print documents. However, on Google Chrome OS, it is not easy to successfully drive a printer for printing.
As we all know, using a computer to connect a printer to print documents requires the installation of a driver. This may not seem like a big problem for Windows and macOS users, but it is a huge headache for Google Chrome OS users.
It is understood that in order to avoid the trouble of driving the printer, Google Chrome OS has adopted a unique method-Cloud Print service. By talking to the printer through Cloud Print, it can alleviate the trouble on the operating system side.
However, Cloud Print will shut down its service on January 1 next year, which requires Chrome OS itself to control the printer's work.
Foreign media said that Google has added a print management application "Print Management App" to Chrome OS, allowing Chrome OS users to view and manage their local print jobs and perform print management. The program is still in the early stages of development.
Like many Chrome OS applications, it is a Web-based System Web Application (SWA). Inside the program, you can see a list of recent print jobs, including the name of the job, the time of the job, and whether it was successfully sent to the printer, etc. Not only that, it will also provide the ability to scan documents.
No more information about this application is known, and its operation process cannot be seen. It is still unknown when it will be launched. However, since Cloud Print is about to shut down its service, Google will definitely take corresponding measures. Foreign media said that it may not be until Chrome OS 82 or 83 in the second half of this year that a fully official version of the print management application is available.
