How to plan the City: Skyline Line Network? Some friends may not know it yet, so today I will share with you the City: Skyline Line Network Planning Guide. Friends who are not sure yet can come and take a look.
The roads in the game are roughly divided into three types: 1. Lanes, 2. Highways, 3. Sidewalks.
Driving lane:
Lanes are the most commonly used roads in cities, and the game comes with many lanes of different sizes and functions. For a suburb dominated by low-density residential areas, building a two-way six-lane road is obviously overkill and will not only waste money (Taxpayers: Achievement Project Warning).
It will also make the city created lack a sense of reality; for urban centers full of high-density commercial areas, ordinary two-lane roads will not be able to carry out heavy tasks. Road congestion will cause goods to be unable to reach stores in time, which will lead to store closures. Therefore, reasonable selection of road scale is a necessary condition for building a more realistic and non-congested city.
In addition, using one-way streets on specific road sections can also help improve road conditions. In the picture below, I built the lane in front of the main park in the city into a one-way six-lane. The front and rear ends of the lane are connected to other parts of the city through highways, forming a closed loop, which alleviates congestion in the area.
But it should be noted that when planning a one-way road, you must pay attention to whether public service vehicles can access the entire road. Otherwise, garbage will not be transported out or fire vehicles will not be able to reach it.
There are the animal area and the carnival area of the city park on both sides of the road. Vehicles destined for the two park gates occupy the left and right lanes, and the straight road in the middle of the road will be less affected.
Highway:
At the opening of all maps, at least one highway will be used for external connections and serve as the entrance and exit of the city. Expressways have the advantages of high speed and large transport volume. However, because of these two characteristics, it is impossible to plan buildings on both sides and cause a lot of noise. Highways are to cities what arteries are to the human body. Based on their characteristics, highways are generally used for:
a. Connection lines in areas with high traffic volume (such as connecting industrial areas and commercial areas, airports and urban areas, freight ports and urban areas, etc.);
b. Expressways connecting different areas of the city (urban elevated loops, intercity expressways connecting the main urban area and satellite cities, etc.).
From left to right are farms, pastures, industrial parks and fisheries. It is placed along the intercity expressway and is convenient for exits. It can also be directly connected to the inner city expressway through the incoming expressway.
Note that highways need to intersect with urban traffic lanes as little as possible, otherwise it will easily cause highway congestion.
In this regard, the idea is that the entrances and exits of expressways should be constructed in fewer but more precise ways, and intersections should be set up on the periphery of arterial roads as much as possible, so that traffic can reach their destinations in the shortest distance while avoiding too many vehicles on the inner roads of the city. In addition, it is best for highways in urban areas to be elevated, otherwise it will easily cause fragmentation of the city.
Sidewalk:
Compared with the first two, the important role of sidewalks in "City: Skyline" is often overlooked. In addition to the built-in sidewalks next to the traffic lanes, there are also various styles of sidewalks that can be constructed under the "Terrain" tab. They can also go up to the sky and into the ground to form overpasses and underground passages.
But through overpasses, residents can walk directly across the roads below. These sidewalks are only for pedestrians and bicycles and are independent of other traffic systems. They not only provide shortcuts for pedestrians, but also reduce the number of motor vehicles on the road to a certain extent.
The editor of City: Skyline Network Planning Guide has shared it here. I hope it can help everyone.
