Ubuntu release manager Steve Langasek said on the Ubuntu mailing list, "Due to some internal requirements, we will be changing the release dates of our upcoming releases (18.04.5 and 20.04.1)."

The specific changes are: The release date of Ubuntu 20.04.1 version has been postponed from July 23, 2020 to August 6, 2020. The release date of 18.04.5 has been changed from August 6, 2020 to August 13, 2020. At the same time, its Wiki publishing schedule page has also completed synchronized changes.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS was released on April 23, 2020 and includes many new features and enhancements. However, according to feedback from many 20.04 LTS users, there are also some bugs in this version. Therefore, Canonical will not notify users to upgrade their systems before releasing version 20.04.1.

The 20.04.1 release will include all bug fixes and security updates pushed since the April ISO release. High stability and no bugs are also one of the important reasons why most people are looking forward to the release of this version. Now, with its delayed release, users will not be notified to upgrade Ubuntu to the new LTS version until August 6th.

However, for those who want to upgrade Ubuntu 18.04 or 19.10 to 20.04 immediately, there is a forced upgrade method.

In addition, development of the next generation Ubuntu 20.10 "Groovy Gorilla" is also underway. If you want to test it out, you can download the daily version of 20.10 here.
