Google has now launched a new quick settings menu that allows users to easily make changes to Gmail's email interface, including changing the inbox type, density, reading pane position, or theme. Previously, to change the Gmail inbox type, users needed to access its settings interface, and to change the display density or theme of the Gmail interface, they needed to click the gear icon and select the relevant options.
Today Google announced in the GSuite update blog that they are adding a new Quick Settings menu to ease the pain of switching settings back and forth: "We are adding a Quick Settings menu to help you easily find and use different layouts, settings, and Theme to make Gmail look and feel right for you." An animation shared in the blog post confirms that the gear icon has been moved from its current location to between the Google Apps launcher and support icons. Clicking the icon will display the quick settings pane with a "See all settings" link for the full settings.
Gmail's quick settings menu allows users to do the following:
Change density from default to Comfort or Compact
Select a topic from the topics displayed.
Choose an inbox type and adjust the reading pane position
Disable or enable conversational view.

When an option is selected, the inbox will update immediately to reflect the changes.
When you click "Settings," you'll now see different interfaces, inbox types, and display options. When you select an option, your inbox will update immediately, so you can see the settings working in real time.
The feature began rolling out on May 26, and it may take 15 days for it to be visible to all Gmail users.
