Registry Editor FAQ
I can't delete the registry key, is there any way to fix this?
If you are sure it is not a permissions issue, you can try the following steps.
1. Select any registry key and export the key to a registry hive file. For performance reasons, do not select a key that contains many subkeys and values.
2. Select the parent key of the key to be deleted. If there are other keys and values in the parent key, move these keys and values to another location or export to a REG file.
3. Import the registry hive file on top of the parent key. This operation will overwrite everything in the parent key.
4. Delete the imported keys and values and restore the old content.
Can I use the root key's abbreviation in the address bar?
Yes, you can use the following abbreviations.
I see HKLM and HKU in the snapshot. What are HKCR, HKCU and HKCC?
HKLM and HKU contain all registry data. HKCR, HKCU and HKCC are just links.
