KeyShot 8 Software Tips
1. Scene setting.
Create a simple scene on the table - some fruit, a plate, a bottle of water, a cigarette, some shoes, some envelopes and newspapers, or a bottle of ink next to the perfume bottle, some gold or chrome objects. Anyway, put some object types that you might need in your future work. Now your scene is set up.
2. Lighting arrangement.
Next, let’s arrange the lighting. First, we simply set up a spotlight to make it stand out in the darkness. Try using just one spotlight in your scene, lighting it from the front, back, left, and right.
Try taking a simple picture from these angles (either a mobile phone or a semi-professional camera will work). Of course, you can also use a mirror to reflect the light of a spotlight to create a beautiful reflection effect on the glass bottle. Observe the scene carefully and you will find that glass has a lot of reflections, as do gold objects and chrome objects. Take a photo of the scene.
3. Set up the environment.
Use the same HDRI dynamic map to create HDRI. You can add a lens flare in the center of the black background in Photoshop, and then save it as a 32-bit HDRI format image.
The software is very accurate, but use it as little as possible - just as a red car will never be 100% red. Take a photo and import it into Photoshop to analyze its color. You will be surprised to find that in most cases, red cars are brown. This means that we can use the materials of this software as a basis to adjust the required materials, and at the same time add your own understanding of the materials.

KeyShot supports over 20 3D file formats, including SketchUp, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Pro/ENGINEER, PTC Creo, Rhinoceros, Maya, 3ds Max, IGES, STEP, OBJ, 3ds, Collada and FBX. KeyShot also has a number of plug-ins with more features, including KeyShot BIP export and LiveLinking.
Step 2: Assign your materials From the Library window, select the Materials tab. Apply over 600 scientifically accurate materials from the materials library simply by dragging and dropping them onto your model in Live View. You can instantly display changes on your model and get accurate color and lighting under current lighting conditions
Step 3: Select your environment Now select the Environment tab. Drag and drop indoor, outdoor or studio lighting environments (HDRI) into the scene. You'll instantly see scientifically accurate, real-world lighting changes and how it affects the appearance of your colors, materials, and finishes.
Step 4: Adjust the camera Use the mouse to adjust the camera. Additional settings are available in the Project, Camera tab. Adjust angle and distance, control perspective with focus and field of view settings, and easily add depth of field to your scene.
Step 5: Enjoy the perfect image Click Render on the main toolbar. Use default settings or adjust output options. Select the Render button to watch the image render before your eyes.
KeyShot 8 Special Instructions
1.HS does not support FBX. Different objects need to be given different colors before different materials can be assigned in HS.
2. HS does not support MR materials, so when exporting OBJ, you must use MAX's standard material to have material layering. Otherwise, HS will treat it as having only one material, and it will not be layered.
3. The materials of MAX and HS are in one-to-one correspondence, which means that even though they are different objects, their materials are the same in MAX, so they are also the same in HS. Materials are not just used as point IDs.
4. It is not possible to assign only ID without assigning MUTIL material. Multi-layer sub-materials must be used to achieve the layering effect.
5. When you want to import in layers, you should note that HS will keep your objects close to the ground.
6.HS defines objects based on materials. For HS, an object is a combination of all objects with the same material.
Even if the materials are separated, HS will still confuse them in many cases.
7. HS does not support the Chinese display of materials imported from MAX. It is best to use English when setting. If not, the system will list the Chinese display as the same material and cause an error.
8. Do not drag to assign materials and then modify the materials that come with HS, as it will change the system.
The correct one is SHIFT+right-click and then double-click to modify
9. Only the objects imported at the beginning can be moved, and MERGE objects cannot be moved.
10.ior adjusts the brightness of the material. The higher the value, the more complete the reflection. Generally, it is necessary to adjust it.
11.Shift+P stops real-time rendering
12. You can use PS to create HDRI as a light map for objects
13. The gamma in the image and the environment is equivalent to the contrast. The higher the contrast, the smaller the contrast.
14. SCREENSHOT cannot replace RENDER, it just saves the picture you see. However, when your SCREENSHOT does not move for a long time, it will continue to calculate, and the results are actually not much different. Mainly, some parameters affect rendering and will not have effects in real time. But if you are doing this rendering while doing other things, just increase the real-time rendering parameters.
15. Double-click the material to adjust it yourself. Render all of them... You can usually use it as a reference for the effect~
16. When rendering, the shadow parameters should be adjusted higher. The default ones are too low, about 5, combined with ANTI-alising.
17. Caustics need to find a suitable HDIR, because the physical properties of caustics determine that it is difficult to see a good caustics effect using plane light. Need to find HDIR pictures similar to point light
18.Ray bonous
Affects the number of reflections of the material
19. HS can be associated with materials, that is, multiple objects are given the same material, which makes modifications much more convenient.
20. If the shadow is too white, you can increase GAMMA to increase the contrast, or correctly modify the exposure of the HDRI light source
21. Generally speaking, if the ROUGHNESS of a material is higher than 0.5, it will have a rough and large glossy surface, and it must be combined with GLOSY to be effective.
22.gLoss Sample can be smooth to 8-16. It is not effective at 0. It can get a non-rough bright surface with it.
23. Copying materials in the scene and then selecting the material library will automatically close HS, SHIFT+P and then CTRL+P and it will die again (PS: This is the case with my system)
24. When expressing certain colors with high brightness, such as yellow, (GENAL's material) sometimes it is necessary to reduce its diffusion parameters to the environment
25. When adding your own materials to the material library, remember to save your material library
26. HDRI is very important to your material performance and can affect your correct judgment when assigning materials. Cars prefer to use STUDIO LIGHT to confirm the correct material. After determining the material, you can adjust the brightness through the up, down, left and right keys.
Turning on the coordinate system can assist in placing objects
27. Don’t turn on the self-illumination when you have nothing to do, it’s too slow.
28. Depth of field is controlled by FSTOP. The distance can be directly clicked in the middle of the picture. The smaller the value, the smaller the view and the more blur. When you render, it feels very rough. Increase the sampling value!!!
29. If you want to get a realistic reflection blur effect, make the floor of a real object, and then give it a metal material.
30. The brushed metal in the material library is different from the anisotropic material with the same parameters set by yourself!!!
31. When using Rhino to export, it is better to choose REFINEMESH. Some models will have MESH blocks in the default settings.
32. Some shortcut keys are wrong, for example, to zoom in or out is SHIFT+ALT+right click
33. The GENERAL material is very easy to control the surface color and reflection, and can be adjusted through the diffusion and reflection environment parameters.
