VariCAD 2018 features:
User interface and system environment
VariCAD's Graphical User Interface (GUI) is designed to allow fast and intuitive 3D/2D orientation. It is carefully designed and adapted to reflect the designer's thought process so that ideas can be captured and communicated in a minimum of steps. All commands are created with ease of use in mind.
You can start by creating a 3D model and then use it to automatically create drawing files, or just draw in 2D. 3D design is often more "natural" because it closely represents actual parts and components. 3D methods are often more intuitive than 2D drawing. Models created in 3D are easily converted into traditional 2D documents. VariCAD provides 2D update tools after changes to the 3D model.
3D modeling
VariCAD provides a library of basic 3D shapes (such as boxes, cylinders, cones, etc.) that can be easily modified by editing dimensions. Solids can also be created by contour rotation, extrusion or lofting. More complex tools include rotational blending between two profiles, lofting between circles and rectangles or between different profiles and the creation of spiral surfaces.
Parameters and geometric constraints
While solids or their parts can be transformed comfortably, there is an option to define geometric constraints. Once defined, constraints allow you to stick "objects" at specified locations. Rather, you can remove degrees of freedom from constrained objects. Constraint objects automatically change their position if other objects change or deform. For example, if you constrain a groove to the end of a shaft and change the length of the shaft, the groove will maintain a constant distance from the end edge. Constraints can be defined between elements of a solid, or they can be created across the entire solid or within a 2D outline (for example, by extrusion).
3D components and groups
VariCAD also provides tools for assembly support. If a connection between a part and an assembly is defined, any changes made to the part file will be reflected in the assembly file and vice versa. Linked copies of solids can also be defined (so-called identical solids). In this case, editing one object causes all identical copies to be updated. For multiple objects, entity groups can also be defined, making selection and visibility changes simple.
3D - 2D export
3D models can be easily converted into 2D drawings to generate traditional drawing documents. You can create a 2D view of one or more selected entities by defining the view in 3D. Additionally, you can export specified sections. VariCAD supports updating 2D drawings after changing 3D.
2D drawing and editing
The drawing function is optimized and easy to use in projects. Some convenient features for 2D drawing include: automatic detection of objects and snap points, multiple snap modes, auxiliary construction lines, orthographic mode, rectangular grid, drawing layers, block creation, section lines with automatic boundary detection, advanced dimensioning , completion symbols, welding symbols, tolerance symbols, etc. You can draw in millimeters or inches.
