New features in Finale 2014:
1. New file format.
Designed with improved compatibility, new format documents created in Finale can help you share your music more easily. Old Finale documents are automatically converted to the new format when you open them. You can also export your document to the older format used in Finale 2012 (MusicXML used by earlier versions).
2. Musical score without key signature.
Create a score or passage without a key signature. You can also easily hide key signatures and continue to show dependencies automatically using the Hide Key Signature/Show Subscriptions item.
3. Additional beat Smart Shapes (intelligent graphics).
Smart shapes that were previously attached to length are now attached to rhythm (in the same way), with line display and attached points. Beat attachments allow a smart graphic start or end point to be attached to a specific note, tempo, or barline to the right. Dotted smart graphics include lines, vibrato and vibrato range, 8va/8vb (octave/lower octave), horizontal brackets and lines.
4. Intelligent multi-layer attachment and pause processing.
The same sustain and subordinate rests on multiple layers of notes played simultaneously can now be displayed only once. Attachments of one layer can now be placed on other layers (these layers can optionally display note attributes and note styles).
5. Improved percussion function.
There is now better interaction between the Percussion Layout Designer and Percussion MIDI Maps. Percussion MIDI Maps are now moveable.
6. Unlinkable Special Tools.
Any modifications made via this tool are now unconnectable between the score and its parts.
7. MP4 support.
Finale now supports loading MP4 videos.
8. Improved scanning/SmartScore Lite enhancements.
Finale now includes SmartScore Lite X2, which offers improved score recognition.
9. New ARIA Player.
Finale now includes the latest ARIA Player from Garritan with over 400 instruments including the addition of Alto Flute, Bass Flute, Soft Oboe, Eb Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Soprano Trumpet, Tubular Bells, String Overtones, "Toys ” Percussion, orchestral brass, flugelhorn, basic African percussion, steel drums, banjo, fife, tablas, Celtic harp and 9 from the Garritan Instant Orchestra timbre.
10. Improved file opening.
Finale displays all readable file types in the Open dialog box. Additionally, MusicXML files can now be dragged and dropped into the Finale application.
11. New Finale update method.
Finale will automatically check for updates as they are rolled out. Instead of having to manually download and install updates from the Finale website, Finale can now download and install updates automatically.
