Microsoft this month released the latest version of its malware removal tool, version number 3.0, which can effectively remove specific popular malware/viruses, including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom.
Microsoft recommends that all Windows system users download the removal tool to perform a thorough check, even if the computer system appears to be "all fine." However, this tool does not replace the functions of regular antivirus software.
Things to note
To have the latest version available and installed automatically as it is released, set the Auto-Update feature to Automatic. The version of this tool provided by Windows Update runs in the background on your computer once a month. If an infection is found, the tool will display a status report the next time you start your computer. If you want to run this tool multiple times per month, you can run the version provided on this page or use the version on the Malware Removal Tool website.
