The official version of VeraCrypt (hard disk partition encryption software) is a free disk partition encryption software that supports partition encryption of all disks such as hard disks, U disks, mobile hard disks, etc. It can also encrypt the entire hard disk, allowing users to choose their favorite encryption algorithm, and New encrypted partitions can be created directly.
VeraCrypt (hard disk partition encryption software) function introduction
VeraCrypt is a free disk encryption software released by IDRIX and based on truecrypt. It enhances the encryption algorithm used for the system partition and other disk partitions. For example, when the system partition is encrypted, TrueCrypt uses PBKDF2-RIPEMD160 with 1000 iterations. , while VeraCrypt uses 327661; when encrypting non-system partitions, TrueCrypt uses up to 2000 iterations, but VeraCrypt uses 655331 for RIPEMD160 and 500000 iterations for SHA-2 and Whirlpool.
VeraCrypt (hard disk partition encryption software) software features
Create a virtual encrypted disk in a file and mount it as a real disk.
Encrypt an entire partition or storage device such as a USB flash drive or hard drive.
Encrypt the partition or drive where Windows is installed (pre-boot authentication).
Encryption is automatic, real-time (instantaneous) and transparent.
Parallelization and pipelining allow data to be read and written as fast as if the drive were unencrypted.
Encryption can be hardware accelerated on modern processors.
Provide reasonable denials if an adversary forces you to reveal your password: hidden volumes (steganography) and hidden operating systems.

How to use VeraCrypt (hard disk partition encryption software)
Step 1: Run the software
Step 2: The main VeraCrypt window should appear. Click Create Volume (marked with a red rectangle for clarity).
Step 3: The VeraCrypt Volume Creation Wizard window should appear.
In this step, you need to select the location where you want to create the VeraCrypt volume. VeraCrypt volumes can be located in files (also called containers) on partitions or drives. In this tutorial, we will choose the first option and create a VeraCrypt volume in a file.
Since this option is selected by default, you can simply click Next.
NOTE: In the following steps, the screenshot will only show the right portion of the wizard window.
Step 4: In this step, you need to choose whether to create a standard volume or a hidden VeraCrypt volume. In this tutorial, we will choose the former option and create a standard VeraCrypt volume.
Since this option is selected by default, you can simply click Next.
Step 5: In this step, you must specify the location where the VeraCrypt volume (file container) is to be created. Note that VeraCrypt containers are just like any normal files. For example, it can be moved or deleted as any ordinary file. It also requires a filename, which you will choose in the next step.
Click "Choose File".
The standard Windows file picker should appear (the VeraCrypt Volume Creation Wizard window remains open in the background).
Step 6: In this tutorial, we will create a VeraCrypt volume in the folder F: Data, and the file name of the volume (container) will be My Volume (as shown in the image above). Of course, you can choose any other file name and location you like (for example, on a USB stick). Note that the file doesn't exist on my volume yet - VeraCrypt will create it.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please note that VeraCrypt will not encrypt any existing files (when creating a VeraCrypt file container). If you select an existing file in this step, it will be overwritten and replaced with the newly created volume (so the overwritten file will be lost, rather than encrypted). You will be able to encrypt existing files (later) by moving them to the VeraCrypt volume we are creating now*
Select the desired path (where you want to create the container) in the file picker. Type the desired container file name in the File name box.
Click "Save".
The File Chooser window should disappear.
In the following steps, we will return to the VeraCrypt volume creation wizard.
*Please note that after copying existing unencrypted files to a VeraCrypt volume, the original unencrypted files should be securely wiped (erased). There are software tools available for secure erasure (many of them are free).
Step 7: In the Volume Creation Wizard window, click Next.
Step 8: Here you can select the encryption algorithm and hashing algorithm for the volume. If you are not sure what to choose here, you can use the default settings and click "Next" (see the "Encryption Algorithms and Hash Algorithms" chapter for details).
Step 9: Here we specify that we want the size of the VeraCrypt container to be 250 megabytes. Of course, you can specify a different size. After typing the desired size in the input field (marked by a red rectangle), click Next.
Step 10: This is one of the most important steps. Here you have to choose a good volume password. Carefully read the information displayed in the wizard window about what makes a good password.
Once you have chosen your password, type it in the first input field. Then re-enter in the input box below the first input box and click "Next".
Note: The Next button will be disabled until the passwords in both input fields are the same.
Step 11: Move the mouse as randomly as possible in the Volume Creation Wizard window until the Randomness indicator turns green. The longer you move the mouse, the better (it is recommended to move the mouse for at least 30 seconds). This significantly increases the cryptographic strength of the encryption key (which increases security).
Click "Format".
Volume creation should begin. VeraCrypt will now create a file called My Volume in the folder F:Data (as we specified in step 6). This file will be the VeraCrypt container (it will contain the encrypted VeraCrypt volume). Depending on the size of the volume, creating the volume may take a long time. Once completed, the following dialog box will appear:
Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
Step 12: We have just successfully created a veraccrypt volume (file container). In the VeraCrypt Volume Creation Wizard window, click Exit.
The wizard window should disappear.
Frequently asked questions about VeraCrypt (hard disk partition encryption software)
Is the official version of VeraCrypt (hard disk partition encryption software) safe?
The insecurity of TrueCrypt for many ordinary users is that it is no longer updated; and although the official version of VeraCrypt (hard disk partition encryption software) is based on TrueCrypt, VeraCrypt has enhanced its encryption algorithm while constantly fixing vulnerabilities. It is still under development and updates.
Is the official version of VeraCrypt (hard disk partition encryption software) easy to use?
The official version of VeraCrypt (hard disk partition encryption software) improves the security of TC and is as convenient and easy to use as TC. VeraCrypt also operates encrypted files in the form of a virtual disk, and its usage is exactly the same as TC. I believe that users who have transferred from TC will be able to use it in depth without any learning.
