Fontconfig software introduction
In Fontconfig, fonts are usually divided into three types: sans, sans-serif and monospace. Among them, the characteristic of sans-serif font is that there are lines at both ends of the stroke, while sans does not. Both fonts are proportional fonts in Fontconfig. Compared with monospace fonts, the letter widths of the former are different. For example, generally i is much narrower than M; while the width of each letter of monospace fonts is the same and is generally used for typesetting codes.
Generally speaking, serif fonts are suitable for written typesetting, and sans-serif fonts are suitable for screen display, but this is not always the case. As display resolutions improve, serif fonts now display ideally on many advanced displays. Common serif fonts include Garamond, Palatino, Arno, Times...; common sans-serif fonts include Helvetica, Myriad, Lucida Grande,Gill Sans...
