Microsoft today announced the release of the v89.0.723.0 build update for Edge Dev development channel users. This version reduces the power consumption of background tabs and has built-in functions for on-demand scanning of leaked passwords from the password settings page.
Edge Dev 89 new features:
Added the ability to run an on-demand scan for leaked passwords from the password settings page.
Added site permissions for preloading websites with cookies and site data.
Added option to have downloaded PDFs open in the default PDF reader instead of the Edge browser.
Added keyboard shortcut information to the Sharing, Copy and Paste Settings page.
Enables Chromium work to reduce battery usage of background tabs.
Enabled management policy support for "Print Allow Background Graphics Mode" and "Print Background Graphics Default" from Chromium.
When it comes to reliability, Microsoft has fixed an issue where Edge would fail to launch and instead give an "invalid side by side configuration" error. Additionally, they fixed a crash on startup on Linux systems, as well as a crash when quickly closing the browser after creating a new time.
