WimTool

WimTool is a Wim image file modification/mounting processing tool. WimTool can provide ordinary users with the most commonly used processing functions for WIM format files, such as creating image files, mounting images, extracting Wim images to hard disk directories, and adding new image volumes to existing Wim files.
In WimTool, when operating and processing Wim files, the interface elements provide users with considerable display information. When the most common processing of Wim files fails, WimTool will provide instructions for the failure.
The WimTool interface adopts a paging design, and each page provides necessary operating instructions, option requirements and precautions. First-time users please read the operating instructions on each page first.

Function introduction

Mounting and unmounting have four functions:
1. Refresh the list to add images mounted by other tools or remove images uninstalled by other tools. There are no options for this operation.
2. The required options for mounting an image include image file name, target directory, and image number. Rewriteable mounting is optional.
3. The required option to uninstall the image is the target directory of the mounted image, and [Execute uninstall processing command] is optional. WimTool will prompt when uninstalling a writable mounted image by clicking the [Unmount Image] button or double-clicking the mounted volume number in the list. Double-clicking the header will uninstall all images without modification, and double-clicking a file in the list will also uninstall the image without modification. WimTool cannot mount or unmount subpackage files.
4. The required options to unlock the image are the same as 1, there are no options. This tool can unpack split package files. All subpackage files must be located in the same directory, and their names must match the naming rules of the subpackage files generated by ImageX split WIM images.
 

New creation and addition have three functions:
1. Define the image configuration file
In this configuration file, when making an image, you can define which files or directories are not captured into the WIM image, which files are not compressed again in the WIM image, and which files are aligned on 64K boundaries; when decompressing the image, you can also define which files are decompressed and which files are not decompressed. This profile definition is compatible with ImageX and you can use it with your ImageX profile.
2. Create a new image file
The required options are the source directory to make the Wim image and the file name to save the image. The optional options are the compression type, image volume name, image volume description and boot flag.
3. Add a new volume to the image
The required options are the same as in Part 1. The optional options are the image name, image description and boot flag. When the saved image file exists, WimTool will automatically select the compression type that matches the original image and automatically select the append method. Appending new image volumes to split package files is not supported. If you don't know much about the image configuration file, please do not modify it and just use the default settings.
