Mondo Rescue

Mondo Rescue software introduction

Mondo Rescue (hereinafter referred to as Mondo) can be said to be Linux Under Ghost, it can back up your system to tape, CD-R, CD-RW, NFS or hard disk partition like a photo. Mondo widely supports LVM, RAID, ext2, ext3, JFS, XFS, ReiserFS, VFAT, etc. This software allows you to back up your Linux system step by step. If something goes wrong in the future, just use the created MondoCD to restore the system to the state of the last backup.

Similar to Windows Ghost, when using backup, the backup of applications and data should be handled separately. In other words, Mondo is used to back up the basic application configuration of the system, and production data is processed using data backup, such as scheduled backup to disk.

Mondo Rescue infrastructure

Mondo Rescue consists of two packages: Mondo and Mindi. Mondo is the main program used for backup and restore. Mindi is similar to a mini Linux, which includes the core, modules, function libraries and some important tools for system maintenance.

Mondo Rescue installation instructions

When using it, first install the Mondo software on the system that needs to be mirrored, then run it, back up according to the prompts, and generate a backup CD for future use. When restoring, just use the CD to start recovery.

1. Preparation

Before backing up, install and configure all applications that need to be deployed.

Then, stop the started application. It is recommended to keep the system in a "clean" state for backup.

There are many ways to back up. It is recommended to back up to the local disk first. Therefore, you need to prepare a free space locally, which can be enough to store subsequent backup disc images.

2. Installation

Install Mondo software on the system that needs to be backed up. There are several rpm packages that need to be installed. For convenience, Centos6.5 64-bit system is used for testing this time, which supports yum updates.

         #yum install mondo

3. Perform backup

In English environment, start the backup program:

         # unset LANG

         #mondoarchive

​​Select the compression rate, generally select gzip as the compression condition.

If the system is relatively large, in order to facilitate the burning of discs in the future, the image can be divided into blocks and the size of each image disc can be entered here:

(Generally, the maximum size of CD is 700MB, and the maximum size of DVD is 4300MB)

The name of the image can be modified or defaulted

Path to be backed up:

(“/” means the whole system, and some directories can be excluded later)

Directories that need to be excluded, these directories will not be backed up to the CD image:
