Features in the IDE, such as Add Reference and Toolbox, now correspond to the project's target .NET Framework or Silverlight version. Therefore, types, members, and controls in assemblies that target earlier .NET Framework versions do not appear in IntelliSense and produce background compilation errors. For example, if your project targets the .NET Framework 2.0 and you use language features that are not supported by the .NET Framework 2.0 (such as anonymous types), the IDE will mark that code as an error.
