Step 1: Draw an ellipse

Open the Geometry Sketchpad, click the "Custom Tools" button on the left sidebar, and select "Conic A" - Ellipse from the pop-up shortcut options.

Step 2: Make a cylinder

​​Select the “Point Tool” on the left sidebar and draw a point C on the ellipse. Select the center of the circle and point C, click the "Transform" menu in the upper menu bar, select the "Translate" command from its drop-down option, fill in the translation distance of 5cm in the pop-up dialog box, and click the "Translate" button.
