Linux Mint 20 is now officially released. The latest version of the operating system ships with Linux kernel 5.4 and is based on Ubuntu 20.04. Linux Mint 20 is a long-term support release and will be supported until 2025. Users can choose between three desktop environments - Cinnamon (4.6), MATE (1.24) and Xfce (4.14).
Linux Mint 20 also comes with a new program called "Warpinator". Warpinator is an application that allows sharing files over a network and has been described as a modern successor to Giver.
Linux Mint lead developer Clement Lefebvre said that "Warpinator" is a reimplementation of Giver. For small work teams, it is a bit redundant to configure the server side (FTP, NFS, Samba) just to share files between several machines. With Warpinator, Linux Mint 20 can achieve easy file sharing on the local network. "
The new version also provides better support for NVIDIA Optimus and NVIDIA ON-Demand profiles, and the system tray section has also received additional improvements in all three versions of Linux Mint.
In addition, Lefebvre noted: "We also had to make some tough decisions. Postponing the new Mint-Y colors until Linux Mint 20.1, changing the Grub menu to always be visible. And removing the Grub theme, which is in this release Linux Mint 20 is blocked from launching on specific laptops."
