Recently, according to foreign media reports, Google has pushed a new test feature in the latest Chrome Canary and Dev versions - hiding the detailed address in the address bar.
Specifically, after enabling this feature, Chrome's address bar will only display the root domain name of the website. For example, when visiting Baidu, only "www.baidu.com" will be displayed, even if you enter a secondary page, such as Baidu Translate ( fanyi.baidu.com), only "www.baidu.com" will be displayed, and the more detailed URLs after .com will disappear.
If the user wants to view the detailed domain name, they need to hover the mouse over the address bar, and Chrome will display the detailed URL information.
As for the reason for hiding it, foreign media said that Google may be out of security concerns, worried that someone would create a malicious long domain name to deceive users into thinking it is another website, such as a fake website disguised as a game official website or an online banking page.
This feature is expected to be pushed as an update in Chrome 85.
