According to reports, Adobe has begun testing advertising through the "open with" and share dialog boxes on Android. Users will see ads for Photoshop Express and AdobeScan when they try to open certain types of files. But in fact, before Adobe, Microsoft also played a similar trick last year.
When a user installs an app from a specific developer (such as Adobe Acrobat Reader), advertisements for other apps from the same developer will appear in the interface, depending on the format of the file being shared or opened.
Adobe's ads also appear in the Android "Open with" UI. When a user attempts to open an image for editing, the ad system recommends downloading Photoshop Express.
Analysis of the AcrobatReader application code revealed promotional strings pointing to PhotoshopElements and AdobeScan.
If it is a file format used by Microsoft products, Android users will also see similar advertisements when opening .PPTX files (such as PowerPoint or OneDrive), but they are mainly for users who have installed the YourPhone mobile companion app.
As for whether this form of advertising will expand to more products and users, it remains for the company to evaluate feedback from early users.
