Today, Tencent announced its fourth quarter and full-year financial reports for 2019, with WeChat and related payment transactions becoming a highlight.
As of December 31, 2019, the number of combined monthly active accounts of WeChat and WeChat reached 1.164 billion, a year-on-year increase of 6.1%, of which the average daily number of messages in the fourth quarter increased by 15% year-on-year.
In the fourth quarter of 2019, Tencent Commercial Payment, with WeChat Pay as its absolute main force, had an average daily transaction volume of more than 1 billion, monthly active accounts of more than 800 million, and monthly active merchants of more than 50 million.
In 2019, the average daily number of transactions in WeChat mini programs more than doubled year-on-year, and the total transaction volume exceeded RMB 800 billion.
In addition, WeChat Moments, mini programs, etc. drove social and other advertising revenue to increase by 33%, reaching 52.897 billion yuan for the whole year.
According to statistics from third-party institution iResearch, in the third quarter of 2019, China’s third-party mobile payment transaction scale was 56 trillion yuan, of which Alipay’s share was 54.5%, an increase of 0.3% from the previous quarter, and Tencent Tenpay (including WeChat Pay)’s share was 54.5%. 39.5%, unchanged from the previous month.
