In order to facilitate developers' programming, Microsoft simply integrated the Linux subsystem directly into Windows 10, called WSL.

Last year at the Build conference, WSL2 was officially launched. WSL2 comes with a real Linux 4.19 kernel, which brings complete system call compatibility and can be upgraded and maintained directly with automatic updates without updating the entire Windows Linux subsystem.

At the same time, WSL2 will run faster than the first-generation WSL1 version, improve the I/O performance of the file system and compatibility with Linux, and can run Docker containers natively.

Microsoft posted on its blog this week that WSL2 will become part of Windows 10 version 2004 as a standard component, and the official version of v2004 is expected to be launched in April or May.

In addition, if you have upgraded to Build 19041.153, you can enable WSL2 through any of the following CMD commands:

1. wsl (if wsl2 is the default version of this machine)

2. wsl --set-version 2 or wsl --set-default-version 2

3. wsl --import and wsl --export

When enabled for the first time, you may be prompted to jump to https://aka.ms/wsl2kernel to download an msi installation package.
