When copying files or folders in Win10, if the disk already has a file with the same name, you will be prompted to rename it. Usually the original name is added with "copy" and a number to automatically rename it. Of course, the name generated by this automatic renaming is regular, not random. Is there any way to modify the renaming rules of files with the same name in Win10?
For example, what about removing the word "- copy", or making the name of the copy file more personalized? The answer is of course yes, you can customize the naming rules of the copied files in Win10.
The reference method is as follows:
1. First press Win+R to open Run, enter regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor;
2. Navigate to the following location
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer
If the NamingTemplates item is not found in the above location, create a new one, as shown in the following figure:
3. Click on the newly created NamingTemplates and create a new string value named CopyNameTemplate on the right.
Then modify the NamingTemplates value according to your own needs to get the rules you want.
The system default naming rule should be: %s - copy
The %s here represents the original file name part. If you set the NamingTemplates value to %s, the system will automatically remove the "- copy" suffix from the copy file name and will only add a numerical sequence in parentheses after the file name.
You can modify the rules according to your own ideas, for example, change it to "ITHome - %s". At this time, the effect will be as shown in the figure below:
The NamingTemplates value may not even contain %s, making the copy file name completely different from the original file name. In short, the system will name the copy file according to any rules you specify. For multiple copies, they are always distinguished by a numerical sequence after the file name.
