The History Brush tool set includes 2 brush tools, namely the "History Brush" tool and the "History Art Brush" tool. In the default state, the "History Brush" tool button is displayed on the toolbox, as shown in Figure 1.

The History Brush tool draws a copy of a state or snapshot of an image into the current image window. This tool creates a copy or swatch of an image and then paints using the copied swatch. In Photoshop, you can create special effects by painting with the History Art brush tool. This section will explain the usage and application techniques of the "History Brush" tool and "History Art Brush" tool through practical steps.

The history record is the computer’s record of our operating status when processing images. The number of recording steps can be set. Select the "Edit" → "Preferences" → "Performance" command to open the "Preferences" dialog box, as shown in Figure 2. Enter the required number of steps in the "History States" setting box. The larger the value, the more memory will be occupied. The default setting is 20.
