We can create a new presentation based on it. The exact settings and content provided by a template vary, but may include some sample slides, background images, custom color and font themes, and custom positioning of object placeholders.

When choosing a template, you can choose from the following categories.

Installed templates: Templates provided by Microsoft, pre-installed with PowerPoint.

My templates: Templates that have been created and saved, as well as templates previously downloaded from Microsoft Office Online.

Microsoft Office Online Template: The template provided by Microsoft can be downloaded from the Microsoft website according to your own needs.

Note: There is also "Installed Theme" under "Templates" in Figure 3.1. The themes are not exactly templates, but they are similar. Chapter 1 explains the differences between the two. New presentations can be created based on themes rather than templates. Such presentations are created with defined color, font, and effect settings.

1. Use installed templates There are very few installed templates because Microsoft believes that most people today have an Internet connection that is always online. Each installed template models a presentation for a specific purpose, such as a photo album, brochure, or short quiz. There is also a business presentation template, but if you are interested in a standard business presentation template, you may prefer to check out the templates available online.

Follow the steps below to create a new presentation based on the installed template:
(1)Select "Office Button" ~ "New". Opens the New Presentation dialog box.
(2) In the "Template" list, click "Installed Templates". A list of installed templates will appear.
(3) Click a template to view a preview.
(4) Select the required template and click "Create". A new presentation based on the template will open.

2. Use a saved template After you create a new presentation using an online template as described in the previous section, PowerPoint copies the template to your hard drive so you can reuse it later without needing to connect to the Internet. It is stored in the "My Templates" folder along with custom templates that have been created.

To access downloaded templates and custom templates, follow these steps:
(1) Select "Office Button" q "New" to open the "New Presentation" dialog box.
(2) Click "My Templates", and a different "New Presentation" dialog box will appear, which contains the downloaded or created template. See Figure 3.2.
(3) Click "OK". A new presentation can be created based on the template.
