The program plan is divided into two steps:

First, the two companies will achieve interoperability between public health department apps between Android and iOS devices in May, when users can download these official apps through their respective app stores.

Next, in the next few months, Apple and Google will build this feature into the underlying support platform and work together to create a broader contact tracing platform based on Bluetooth technology.

Both Android and iOS devices allow users to choose which apps have access to Bluetooth tracking location, and can freely turn off tracking.

Public sector health professionals can access the data, and people with confirmed cases can proactively report it. The system will anonymously remind other users who have been in contact with it and issue a warning to users who have been in contact with infected people.

If the project is ultimately completed, it will have the potential to closely track one-third of the world's population. Currently, iOS and Android systems combined have 3 billion users, covering 99% of the world’s smartphones.
