Ubuntu 20.04 ultimate beta released: guaranteed for 5 years

Canonical today released the last beta test version of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, and the official version will be released on April 23.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS development code-named Focal Fossa is an LTS long-term support version. Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, and Ubuntu Core all provide technical support, upgrades, updates, and security fixes for up to 5 years, while other versions are available for 3 years.

The system kernel of Ubuntu 20.04 is also Linux 5.4 LTS long-term support version, not the latest Linux 5.6, but it brings the latest GNOME version 3.36 desktop environment.

GNOME 3.36 brings new lock screen interface, system menu, folder design, and greatly improved performance, with lower CPU usage of various components.

In addition, the new version of the system also has a new Snap Store software store, which replaces the previous ubutun-software, making it easier and more convenient to find and install new software. There is also a ZFS 0.8.3 file system.

In terms of software, it brings the latest Mesa 20.0, Firefox 74, Thunderbird 68.6.0, and LibreOffice 6.4.
